How The Food Chain WorksHow does the food chain work? Every living thing or organism needs energy in order to live. Every time a animal jumps or moves its using energy They must replenish the energy being used by eating food. Plants use sun light called PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
The food chain is the example of how each living thing gets food and nutrients and energy, and how it is passed from animal to animal and so on. Some organisms use the sun which produces sun light for plants. While another example is a grasshopper who receives nutrients from the grass then is eaten by the frog a second consumer and so on down the food chain. It all starts that way one consumer or animal eating another then another and so down the food chain.. The food chain is made up of herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, and decomposers. The animals in the food chain are called consumers and there many levels. Humans are consumers they are at the top of the food chain.
The definitions of what the Food chain is made up of :
Herbivores- animals that eat only plants
Carnivores- animals that eat only animals
Omnivores- animals that eat both animals and plants, humans are also omnivores!
Decomposers-Bacteria fungi are decomposers eating decaying matter and releasing the nutrients and minerals salts back into the soil. Which will help the plants and the plants eaten by other animal and so on down the food chain.
Producers are plants that are called producers because they take the sun light and use it to produce food (sugar) from carbon dioxide and water.
Consumers are these are animals that can not make there own food so they must eat plants or other animals there are several levels of consumers.
a. Primary consumers are herbivores (Plant Eaters)
b. Secondary Consumers are carnivores that eat herbivores (Plant Eaters) c. Tertiary consumers these are carnivores that eat other carnivores.
A example of consumer food chain from primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer a human eats a shark, that shark ate a seal, that seal ate a large fish, the large fish ate a smaller fish, that fish ate plankton. This is how the food chain works
